Grown-Up Getaway Camp is a classic sleepaway camp for adults in California. It runs as a weekend sleepaway: you stay over, someone else plans the days, and the group eats together. That's the pitch, and it's enough.

Outdoor-education nonprofit Sierra Nevada Journeys opens its 400-acre Grizzly Creek Ranch campus to adults for a weekend of ziplining, archery, crafts, and campfires in the Sierra foothills near Lake Tahoe. The $500 ticket covers lodging, meals, and activities, and proceeds fund the organization's science programs for underserved kids. Camp with a do-gooder angle.

The experience

The format: weekend sleepaway. Two or three nights, all logistics handled. If you've never done an adult camp, this length is the on-ramp. It's adults only: no kids programming, no family sessions mixed in.

Cost

Published price: $500 USD per person. That's the going rate. Most all-inclusive camp weekends in North America land between $400 and $1,000. Check what the ticket covers before comparing camps. Whether lodging, meals, and transport are bundled moves the true cost more than the ticket price does.
