What counts as a purpose-built adult camp?
Three things, and we hold the line on all of them. First, the sleepaway format: you stay on site, usually in cabins or dorms, for at least a couple of nights. Second, programmed activities: archery, talent shows, band rehearsals, ropes courses, a schedule someone else planned so you do not have to. Third, camp culture: mess halls, camp names, bunkmates, the whole nostalgic apparatus, aimed at adults on purpose. Wellness retreats, festivals, and hotel weekends with a camp theme do not make the cut. Camps that used to run but no longer do stay in the directory, clearly marked, because "is that camp still open?" deserves a straight answer.
