Camp Copperhead

Camp Copperhead is what happens when an online community gets a physical address for a few days. Steve Earle (recording artist / touring musician) built the audience first (Grammy-winning artist with national touring audience), then rented the camp. That order of operations is the signature of the influencer-camp wave, and it is why these events sell out faster than most established camps: the trust was earned long before tickets went on sale.

Steve Earle's Catskills songwriting camp put fans in cabins at Full Moon Resort for days of craft classes, co-writes, and campfire performances with Earle and guests like Shawn Colvin. It ran annually from 2015 through 2022, but organizers have since posted that they can't find a venue that works logistically or economically, leaving the camp on indefinite hiatus.

The experience

Practical picture: the format is multi-day sleepaway, annual. The longer format is the point here. Multiple nights on site is what separates a camp from an event; by day three the group stops feeling like strangers. It is adults-only, which matters more than it sounds. The tone of a camp changes completely when every camper chose to be there for themselves.
