Camp Grounded

Camp Grounded is a purpose-built adult camp in the sober & digital detox lane, based in California. This is not a retreat center with a camp theme bolted on; the format is a weekend-length sleepaway with programmed activities, communal meals, and the deliberate structure of a real summer camp, aimed squarely at grown-ups.

The camp that invented the digital detox genre: founded in 2013 by Levi Felix, Camp Grounded collected phones at the gate and gave grown-ups camp names, typewriters, and analog play across roughly 15 sessions in four states. It went dark after Felix died of brain cancer in 2017 at age 32; Forest Bronzan acquired the Digital Detox brand and briefly relaunched it in May 2020. As of August 2026 digitaldetox.com is unreachable and no recent sessions can be found, so it is best considered defunct, though its DNA lives on in camps like Camp Reset.

The experience

Practical picture: the format is weekend sleepaway (3 days, tech-free, substance-free, no work talk, camp names). A short sleepaway is the most forgiving on-ramp into camp life, and this one follows that playbook: a couple of nights in, all logistics handled. This is an adults-only environment: no kids programming, no family sessions mixed in.

When it last ran, pricing was $570-800 USD historically. That is squarely in the mainstream band for adult camp: most all-inclusive weekend sleepaways in North America charge somewhere between $400 and $1,000. Confirm what the price actually covers.
